For Business in Abilene we should focus on our assets and ways that these assets lead to a return on investment. The interesting thing about social media marketing is that we are looking to create social assets. These assets are the friends that we make on the different networks that we participate on and the inclination that friends have to help us. These assets are called social assets. Social assets are not just found in social networks but are found in our daily lives.

An individual with a large social asset will tend to have a larger resource to knowledge, ideas, opportunities, support, reputation, and visibility. Those will more social capital will close more deals, are better respected, and may have higher-ranking jobs. Who we know and the amount of who we know is very powerful indeed. One of your goal when getting friends on your Facebook fan page should be to connect with as many people in your market niche, but also invite those that may be the indirect niche.

These online social sites really are like online databases of customers that are helping to track our social capital. The reason that we want to create a diverse online fan group is that this develops a diverse connection. When you start to contact your group your voice will tend to echo through your group and into your fans groups. This is important since each person’s social group is important to them and we tend to listen to those in our group. Imagine a friend telling you about a big sale that they shouldn’t miss. Most people may not have any other way to hear about this sale except through a friend.

Lets say you met someone at a business meeting three months ago and made them a friend on Facebook. You decide to make contact and check out their profile and notice that you both like soccer. This now makes the call warm and far friendlier than just focusing on business. The other thing to think about is that we are more likely to friend those that we have just met vs. someone that we have known for a long time. This may seem strange at first, but it is simple to friend someone and then make a choice to keep the relationship or not. We are less likely to miss out on a relationship that could of provided some value that we didn’t see at first. What this means is that we waste less time on relationships that won’t go anywhere.

With the above concepts in mind we will next focus on social sales and social network marketing. Stay tuned!
